Fleet-wide Navy portal crane upgrades

Advanced Crane Technologies is executing a multi-year, multi-award rehabilitation contract to modernize up to eleven 60-ton 1980s-era Craft-Am Clyde portal cranes for the U.S. Navy. The project spans multiple shipyards nationwide and includes extensive upgrades to crane control systems, operator stations, and safety monitoring. Each crane is equipped with a new operator’s chair, integrated load cell systems, and a cab-mounted color touchscreen displaying hook load, diagnostics, alarms, and real-time crane status—improving operator awareness and control.

In addition to electrical modernization, ACT is implementing key mechanical upgrades including new limit switches, EPA-compliant generator sets, rail lubrication systems, and—for select cranes—3-meter diameter drum-mounted disc brakes on whip hoists. These enhancements ensure reliable, compliant, and precise operation for mission-critical naval support across multiple facilities, demonstrating ACT’s scalable expertise in large-scale fleet crane modernization.
