Container crane upgrades for U.S. Navy.

Advanced Crane Technologies was selected as the prime contractor to rehabilitate two 1990s-era IMPSA container cranes for the U.S. Navy at MOTCO. Each 45 Long Ton crane, with a 100-foot span, 155 feet of lift, and 256 feet of trolley travel, underwent a complete controls and mechanical system overhaul.

ACT replaced the outdated controls with new PLC-based systems featuring color touchscreen HMIs for real-time display of hook load, system diagnostics, alarms, and crane status. Extensive mechanical and structural improvements were made to ensure long-term reliability and safety of the cranes.

Major enhancements included:

  • Installation of new reducers and rebuilding of brakes
  • Refurbishment of motors and hydraulic cylinders
  • Replacement of festoon systems and HVAC units
  • Installation of new lightning protection and LED lighting
  • Structural repairs and spreader bar servicing

Additional electrical upgrades included high-voltage cable inspections, conduit/wire fill verification to NEC standards, and replacement of non-compliant systems.
